We celebrated the World Migratory Bird Day on 12th of October. This year it was dedicated to the critical role of insects for the life cycle of many migratory birds and to raise awareness about the worrying decrease of insect’s population around the world.

The Convention on Migratory Species has prepared the first report of its kind dedicated to the research of insects’ population decrease and their importance for the migratory species. The changes in land use and climate as well as pollution are the main factors for their decrease on a global scale. The same factors have their negative influence over the raptors’ population, including the Sacer falcon.

BSPB celebrated the Day with various activities in Poda Protected Area near Burgas – one of the few places in Europe where there are observed 315 bird species on just 1 square kilometer. Our colleague Anton Stamenov made a presentation, dedicated to the efforts of the Bulgarian environmental NGOs towards conservation and restoration of the Sacer falcon as part of the programme. Life for Falcons project support these efforts with different activities for which we inform you regularly on this website and on the Facebook page of the project.
