Representatives of the National Hunting and Fishing Association "Union of Hunters and Anglers in Bulgaria", Maria Kubadinska and Hari Irgev, held informational meetings with the hunting and fishing associations in Kotel and Velingrad as part of the project LIFE for Falcons (LIFE20 NAT/BG/001162). Dozens of hunters from both associations participated in the initiative and showed active interest in the topic of protecting endangered bird species, including the vulnerable saker falcon.
During the events, the pocket edition of the "Hunter’s Guide", developed under the project, was presented. The book contains information on 68 bird species, including game, protected, and diurnal birds of prey, with an emphasis on species identification and preventing mistakes during hunting. The book also provides guidance on breeding periods and migration patterns, hunting seasons, bag limits, and useful contact information for the relevant competent authorities in case of encountering injured or shot protected birds.
All attending hunters received a free copy of the guidebook.
The meetings with hunters from Kotel and Velingrad are part of NLRS-SLRB's awareness campaign under the LIFE for Falcons project, which aims to increase awareness within the hunting community in areas where the species is found or migrates through.
In addition to the informational presentations, the meetings included active discussions on wildlife conservation, the hunters’ on-the-ground experience, and opportunities for effective cooperation between institutions and associations.
