Just a few days ago, the 10th anniversary edition of the Uzana Polyana Fest — a festival dedicated to green ideas and initiatives — came to an end. Once again, the Green Balkans team attended this iconic event and presented their work on the “Life for the Saker Falcon” project. They were supported by students from Trakia University, members of the “Barbatus” eco club, as well as volunteers from Bulgaria, the USA, and Belgium.

There were puzzle games, birds shown up close on the hand, and many prizes for everyone interested in learning more about the activities of Green Balkans. Birds that had completed rehabilitation or were hatched at the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Centre were also released during the event. From the hands of official guests — the Mayor of Gabrovo, Tanya Hristova, and the Regional Governor, Maria Basheva — seven common kestrels took flight into the sky above Uzana.

Dozens of children joined the release and learned more about the species and its unique traits, why it is beneficial to humans, how we track released birds using metal identification rings, and how each of us can help wild animals in distress.
