On the 17th of May Union of Hunters and anglers Lebed – Burgas was a host of the seminar for presenting the Life for Falcons project. More than 60 hunters took part in the meeting and had the opportunity to share their viewpoint on topics, related with the game preservation and the protected species of birds and their habitats.
In the first part of the seminar Dimitar Gradinarov from BSPB presented the activities within the project, part of which are aimed at increasing the numbers of one of the rarest birds in Bulgaria. For achieving this goal. the project provide for complex of measures for minimizing the threats for the species.
One of the main threats for the vultures is the habitats destruction, poaching, nest robbing, etc. Many of them are related with the decreasing of the game and mutual efforts between the NGOs, hunters and the institutions are necessary for these problems to be resolved. BSPB presented to the participants action protocol in case of finding poisoned animals or poisonous baits, because often the hunters are the first to discover such accidents.
Ljubomir Stefanov, UHAB expert, presented the pocket Hunter’s guide, published within the project and all of the participants received a copy of it. The guide aims at helping the hunters in identification of the hunting objects and the protected species similar to them. The main aspects of the good collaboration between the hunting community and representatives of the “green organizations” were also presented.
Special guest of the event was a 28-days old representative of the endangered Saker falcon.
In the discussion which followed it the participants talked about different issues with the local falcon community such as artificial breeding of the species and the methods of its reintroduction in the nature.
We thank to the Union of hunters and anglers Lebed Burgas for the cooperation.
